Cassie Guy is an artist based in Charlottesville, VA known for her paintings and illustrations on wood and paper. Her work is currently being shown at Second Street Gallery’s Bond/Bound show in Charlottesville. Cassie moved from New York City in 2016 leaving her life as a fashion designer behind in exchange for a quieter one overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Her shower curtain is inspired by her own bathroom that is blue and white. Most of the “glyphs” are symbols of what was on her mind as she was thinking of “the bathroom” as a theme.
“I love watercolors so I tried to find the best way to get this feeling on raw canvas. I love their unpredictable nature and the beauty of the bleed. I used fabric dyes at varying degrees of saturation as I played around with bleeding vs a more drawn technique for the harder lines.”
At the time of creation, Cassie was sheltering in place with her husband, 10-year-old son and 8 year-old daughter and 1 ½ year-old Great Pyrenees puppy.
She has this wish for the world once the air has cleared:
“I hope we can all be humans together one day and not so terribly divided. Perhaps we will re-learn the benefits of community and work towards dissolving the bold lines we have drawn to separate ourselves from one another. It’s a big ask but to move forward, we have to learn to hold hands…even if it requires purrelle and lots of it!”
Please use a liner to protect the curtain from water. Do not machine wash or soak. Dry Clean at your own risk. This has not been tested for dry clean. Spot treat un-dyed areas when necessary.
