Kalen Kaminsky is the owner of Upstate, a fashion and lifestyle brand centered on nature-inspired, hand-dyed techniques and mind-bending blown glass. Kalen hosts tie-dye events all over the world as well as working as a prop stylist on fashion shoots. She is currently observing New York’s stay-at-home order with her boyfriend in their home/studio in China Town, NYC .
Kalen’s hand-dyed curtain is inspired by the travel we are all surely not taking since being frozen in time by Covid-19. She was after colors that bring her lightness and joy: pinks, yellows and a little orange.
“I wanted it to feel like one of those romantic sherbert sunsets you have while on vacation in the Caribbean in February.”
This curtain took 3-4 days to produce. Kalen waited for each color to dry before adding the next one. Fiber reactive dyes were used in this dye process. They will not fade or run, however if hung in direct sunlight there might be some light fading.
Machine Wash cold, tumble dye low or hang dry.
