Elan Byrd is a multidisciplinary artist and textile designer based in Miami, Fl. Byrd initially trained in fashion design, attending Parsons School of Design in New York as well as London’s famed Central St. Martins. Ultimately her love for home décor led her to focus on mindful, handmade items to live with rather than wear.
Elan describes her aesthetic as "A reflection of my journey breaking free from the construct of perfection and embracing the beauty in imperfection. A celebration of texture, and the organic, natural forms found in nature."
The participating “Quiet Auction” artists created their work during their stay-at-home orders, steeped in their own thinking, so we asked Elan if she had a message for all of us:
“My wish is for us to forever remember this moment in time and to hold close whatever life lessons we have learned through quarantine. Also, for us as a society to implement a slower routine into our daily lives, one that creates a pace that’s better for the environment.”
Spot clean, do not machine wash or tumble dry. Use a liner to protect against water saturation. Raffia is a natural, dried grass and can withstand some humidity and atmospheric moisture but do not saturate with water.
